Gadgets getting in your way? Get rid of them, along with the ability to add them, with a simple registry tweak.
If you’re like me, you like a clean desktop. No wallpaper, few if any icons, and defintely no gadgets. Gadgets, for me, are simply CPU-cycle eating desktop clutter.
The Windows Gadget Platform is what provides the “glue” for these gadgets to run. By removing this feature from Windows, you can stop the gadgets from running, and remove the ability to install new gadgets. You know, in case your significant other gets gadget-happy.
Just follow these steps to remove the gadget haven:
- Click Start, then type Features in the search box.
- In the results, click the link for Turn Windows features on or off
- Uncheck the checkbox next to Windows Gadget Platform
- Click Ok, then restart your computer after the process completes.
