Have you Tried The Planet Crafter?

Have you played this game yet? If you are a fan of games like Minecraft or other open-world type crafting games, you should give it a try.

In The Planet Crafter, you become a terraforming pioneer on a mission to make a hostile planet hospitable for humans!  I recently became aware of this game on Steam, and can’t get enough.  Some things can be a little confusing, and I’m hoping that by documenting some of this stuff, it might help some of the new players have an easier time of it.

This open-world crafting game lets you team up with up to 10 players to survive, gather resources, and build a base. Your goal is to transform the planet’s ecosystem by generating oxygen, heat, and pressure –  essentially creating a whole new biosphere!

Terraforming is the science behind this transformation. You’ll build machines to improve the planet’s atmosphere, temperature, and terrain. As you progress, you’ll unlock more machines and see the planet come to life with plants, insects, and eventually, animals!

Here’s how it works:

  • Gather resources and build your base: This is your foundation for survival and crafting.
  • Increase the Terraformation Index: This score reflects the planet’s habitability.
  • Build Machines: These machines target specific aspects like oxygen levels, heat, and pressure. Later, you can even introduce life forms!
  • Manage Power: Build generators to keep your machines running smoothly. Balance your power needs with your available resources.

By working together and strategically managing your resources, you’ll transform this barren planet into a thriving world.

Storyline

You are a convict imprisoned for an unknown crime and have been assigned to this planet by Sentinel Corp to create an Earth-like environment, with the promise that your charges will be dropped upon successful completion. To achieve this, you must utilize the planet’s various minerals to create necessary items.

The basic minerals available to you include Cobalt, Ice, Iron, Magnesium, Silicon, and Titanium. By working with these, you can gain access to additional minerals such as Aluminum, Iridium, Uranium, Osmium, Zeolite, Super Alloy, and Sulfur. As you develop the planet’s biosphere, you will also need to find Seed Lirma, and eventually, once the planet has sufficient plant life, you will need Insect Larvae, Fish Eggs, Frog Eggs, and Mammalian Genetic Traits to complete the ecosystem.
