It’s been ten wonderful years since I brought this site on line. Ten years. Wow. This is the longest job I’ve ever held. Let’s see what’s been going on here for ten years.
Back end
Fortypoundhead.com is hand built. I decided at the beginning that I didn’t want to use an off-the-shelf solution to build this site. In my eyes, it would end up being a hodge podge of different things. This would introduce more headaches than it was worth. So I built it myself. I did try a few packages along the way, but none could fit what I needed.
So a couple stats on the backend:
- 47,198 lines of code, contained in 461 files
- 55 tables in MySQL database
It’s no wonder why I have arthritis, eh?
Content, content, content
The big thing about this site is the content. While there doesn’t appear to be much user activity, I can tell that a few people out in the world are getting some value from this site:
- 438 users
- 402 private messages
- 3,963 Ophion entries
- 6,793 posts
- 206 forum posts
- 267 links
- 3,309 average visits per day
- 5,919,082 visits since 2005
- 69,257 banned hosts (caught in honeypot)
What are people reading?
When post on here, I cover a wide variety of technology-related subjects. Sometimes it might be a programming-type question, other times it might be geared more towards beginners. So I wanted to see what the most popular posts on the site were, over the last ten years.
By the way, did you know that as a registered user, you can post on this site as well? Maybe you could see your post in this list.
I hereby lift my glass in toast, and am looking forward to another ten years of helping other people learn to fish.
