Whenever you install new software on your Windows 7 computer, the new software is automatically highlighted on the Start menu. Here is how to stop this sometimes annoying behavior.
After installing your software, a folder on the Start menu is created. The Start menu is normally alphabetically sorted, but newly installed software will get highlighted on the menu, throwing off your menu navigation for a few minutes. THankfully, turning off this feature is pretty straightforward.
Here is how:
- Click Start.
- Right-click any empty space on the menu and click Properties.
- From the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window, click the Start Menu tab.
- Click the Customize button.
- Scroll the menu down and locate Highlight newly installed programs. Untick its square button.
- Click OK to confirm your action.
