Disable Aero Shake Feature

By | 2009-09-10

One of the cool new features of WIndows 7 is Aero Shake. However, for some of those users who are a bit over-caffeinated, this feature can be something of an annoyance.

By grabbing the title bar of an open window and shaking it back and forth a few times, all other windows on screen will be minimized, leaving only the one that you have grabbed. If you’re a bit jittery, and have a habit of grabbing windows for no reason, this feature is probably not for you.

Turning it off is a straightforward registry change, no reboot required. You will however, have to log off and log back on to make it stick.

  1. Open Regedit (Windows Key + R, Regedit, Ok), and navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
  2. Create A new DWORD value, called NoWindowMinimizingShortcuts and set the value to 1.

All set! Remember to log off, then log back on again to make the changes take effect.
