Disable Old School Name Creation

By | 2008-12-14

By disabling 8.3 name creation, as well asĀ disabling low disk space checking, you can enjoy a slight disk performance increase.

Not much, but every little bit helps!

  1. Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
  2. Find the DWORD called NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation.
  3. Right-click it and click Modify.
  4. Change the value to 1.
  5. Click OK.
