This registry tweak will allow you to toggle the Internet Explorer popup blocker. By extrapolating the information here, you can actually control popups in other programs as well, such as MSN Messenger, Windows Explorer, and others. This hack has been tested on Windows XP SP2 and SP3, but not Vista. You can try with Vista, but your mileage may vary. Report back here and let us know if it works! To configure the full Pop-up Blocker
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_WEBOC_POPUPMANAGEMENT - Double-click Iexplore.exe
- To turn off the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. Or to turn on the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
To configure Pop-up Blocker per zone Each number under either of the following registry subkeys represents the different zone:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones
For 1809 under each zone, a data value of 3 means that Pop-up Blocker is disabled. A data value of 0 means Pop-up Blocker is enabled.
