By | 2009-07-18

For unknown reasons to some, the Undock PC Option can sometimes disappear from the start menu. Most likely it is an errant policy. But no fear! It is relatively easy to get it back. Here are the steps. To get back the Undock PC icon you need to do some work in registry. Before doing that it is recommended you take a backup of your system as any mistake can make a permanent damage to your system. Now here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. Click the Start button and type regedit in the Start Search box.
  2. Right-click a blank area on the right side and choose New > DWORD Value
  3. Give the value a name of NoStartMenuEjectPC.
  4. Give it a value of 0 to show the Undock PC option. A value of 1 disables this feature.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOftware\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

Note: Instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER, you might want to try HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE if you only have a default account in Windows. Use the same path for this setting.
