Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration can be a real drag. Now I’m not condoning surfing the web from a server. Far from it. If you decide to surf the web from your server, that security and stability risk is stictly your own.
There are some server-based applications that utilize the IE DLLs in order to “talk” to other servers on the local network. IE ESC can block some of these applications. For example, a front-end web server may not be able to communicate with its back-end app server, in essence breaking the application.
Thankfully, it is relatively easy to restore your application to its full glory by simply turning off ESC, by following these steps:
- Open Server Manager
- Click the top item in the tree to the left Server Manager
- On the page that appears, click on Configure IE ESC in Security Information
- To turn off ESC as needed
Now save your surfing for your personal machine.
