VMware vCenter Server is the centralized management utility for VMware, which allows users to centralize and manage multiple virtual machines (VMs) in a single consolidated interface. With the introduction of vCenter Server 8 Appliance (VCSA), users can benefit from enhanced performance, improved scalability, and a better user experience. Prerequisites
- A server or VM that meets the minimum hardware requirements for vCenter Server 8.
- ISO image of vCenter Server 8 Appliance.
- Network details, including IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS.
- VMware ESXi or vSphere environment to deploy the VCSA.
Installation Steps
Download the ISO
First and foremost, you’ll need to download the VCSA 8 ISO from the VMware official website.
Mount the ISO
Once downloaded, mount the ISO to your system.
Launch the Installer
Inside the ISO, navigate to the vcsa-ui-installer directory and appropriate sub-directory for your OS (e.g., win32 for Windows). Run the installer.exe.
Installation Mode
Select the Install option to begin a new installation.
Introduction and License Agreement
Go through the introduction and accept the license agreement to proceed.
Deployment Type
Choose the type of deployment. For most users, the embedded platform controller option would suffice.
ESXi or vSphere Host Details
Input the details of the ESXi or vSphere host where the VCSA will be deployed.
Set the Appliance VM Details
Provide a name for the VCSA VM and a root password.
Select Deployment Size
Depending on your organization size and requirements, select the appropriate deployment size.
Configure Storage
Choose where you want to store the VCSA files – either on the local storage of the ESXi host or on a datastore.
Network Settings
Input the network details, such as IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers.
Review and Finish Stage 1
Check all the details and click Finish to complete the deployment part.
Configuration
Once deployment is completed, proceed to the second stage, which is configuration.
Setup vCenter
Define the time sync mode and enable SSH if needed.
SSO Configuration
Set up the Single Sign-On (SSO) domain information.
Join the CEIP
Decide whether you want to join the VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP).
Complete Installation
Review all the details and click Finish to initiate the configuration. This will take some time.
Accessing vCenter Server
Once installation is complete, you can access the vCenter Server by pointing your web browser to https://<VCSA_IP_Address>/vsphere-client/.
