Get rid of the lock screen

By | 2020-02-06

In an office environment a lock screen is required, but not so much on your home machine.

A word of caution here. The lock screen is a the screen that is displayed when you either log off or lock the computer when stepping away. Basically, it adds a level of protection from someone randomly walking by your computer, and casually browsing your private content. By turning off the lock screen, you are removing this extra layer of security.

Now, to remove it, open the registry editor and browse to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\

Now, you’ll need to make an addition to this section, by using the following steps:

  • Right-click Windows in the left pane, then hover over New and select Key from the menu. The name of the new key should be Personalization.
  • Select the key you just created by left-clicking on it.
  • Right click an empty space in the right pane, and select New, then DWORD (32-bit) Value. Set the name of the value to NoLockScreen.
  • Double-click the newly created DWORD and change the value to 1. Click Ok.
